On the landing page of the Scholastic Teacher Dashboard, teachers see a Snapshot showing their students’ weekly activity in Ready4Reading. Data is accumulated throughout the week, as students read decodable texts and complete the associated activities. The Snapshot resets every Monday to ensure teachers see the most recent information about their students.
The Ready4Reading Snapshot provides the following information:
Most Completed Texts
A summary of the decodables with the most activity
This section shows the digital Short Reads Decodables and Read to Know Text Sets with the most activity during the current week. To view the skills focus and student performance for each Short Reads Decodables card or Read to Know Text Set, select the icon to the right. This will open the Ready4Reading Explore page and provide more detailed information. Read to Know Text Sets and Short Reads Decodables Student Cards appear only if students have completed the corresponding Word Warm-Up and/or Read & Record activities.
Average Fluency for Read & Record
List of students at each proficiency level denoting fluency
This graph shows the number of students at each of the three levels of proficiency, based on a student’s performance in the Read & Record activities, completed during the current week. Teachers can select a segment to see the students at that level of proficiency.
(Note: Average Fluency is determined using voice recognition software, The quality of the recording may impact a student’s score.)
At the right, additional information about students’ work during the current week includes:
- Word Warm-Ups Completed: The total number of Word Warm-Up activities completed by students in this class. Students must complete the Word Warm-Up activity prior to reading a digital text.
- Read & Records Completed: The total number of Read & Record activities completed by students in this class. Students have the option to complete the Read & Record activity after they read a digital text.
- Texts Read: The total number of digital cards from Short Reads Decodables and texts from Read to Know Text Sets that are read during the week.
Letters2Meaning Assessments/Grade Equivalents
Assessment results indicating below, on, or above grade level proficiency.
Letters2Meaning (L2M) assesses a student’s proficiency with letter identification, letter-sound identification, word reading, spelling, and comprehension skills, and provides a grade equivalent for each student. This graph shows the number of students above, on, and below grade level. It also compares students' first administration of L2M to their most recent administration.
Ready4Reading Explore
On the landing page of the Scholastic Teacher Dashboard, teachers see a Snapshot showing student activity in Ready4Reading digital materials. They may select Explore from the upper right to view additional student data.
Filters
On the Explore page, choices selected in the filters will apply to the reports and will stay constant as teachers navigate between tabs.
A.) Use the Date Range filter to narrow down a time frame. The default start date is the first day of the current school year, while the default end date is the current date.
B.) Use the Your Class filter to switch between different classes.
C.) Use the View filter to switch between viewing all students or student groups.
D.) Use the Group Set filter to view data by student groups.
Choose a Text Set or Card: This feature enables the teacher to select the Read to Know Text Set or Short Reads Decodables card for which they would like to view student data. By default, a student’s most recently accessed card or text set is displayed.
Student Achievements
At the top of the Explore screen, teachers will see class stats for the date range selected.
- Text Sets Completed: The total number of digital Read to Know Text Sets completed by the class. Each text is accompanied by a Word Warm-Up and a Read & Record activity. Students must read the digital text and complete both activities for all three texts in a set in order for the text set to be seen as completed.
- Short Reads Completed: The total number of digital Short Reads Decodables completed by the class. Each card is accompanied by a Word Warm-Up and a Read & Record activity. Students must read the digital text and complete both activities for a card to be seen as completed.
- L2M Assessments Completed: The total number of Letters2Meaning assessments taken by students in the class. “Average Assessments” refers to the average number of assessments completed per student.
Student Performance
Skills Tab
In this section, teachers can find skill-related performance for each of their students. Performance is displayed as:
- Learning: 0-50%
- Practicing: 51-75%
- Applying: 76-100%
Phonics Activities
In this chart, teachers can see how their students performed across skills in Read to Know Text Set titles and cards from Short Reads Decodables. Teachers can select any skill category to view a breakdown of skill-specific performance information.
- Choose a Skill Category: This feature enables the teacher to select a general skill, and view correlated sound-spellings targeted or reviewed in the selected Short Reads Decodables card or Read to Know Text Set.
Teachers Can Look For:
- Check in with students falling in the Learning range. They may be attempting a Short Reads Decodables card or Read to Know text at too high a level. Or the students may need additional support and practice with specific skills.
- Check in with students falling in the Applying ranges. They may need a more advanced text set or card to challenge them.
Performance by Proficiencies
In this chart, teachers can see how their students performed as they read aloud exemplars of specific phonic targets in texts from Read to Know Text Sets and cards from Short Reads Decodables. Teachers can select any group of students in a skill category to view specific performance information.
- Choose a Text Set or Card: This feature enables the teacher to select the Read to Know Text Set or Short Reads Decodables card for which they would like to view student data. By default, a student’s most recently accessed card or text set is displayed.
- Skill Category: Sound-spellings targeted or reviewed in the selected Short Reads Decodables card or Read to Know Text Set.
- Skill Proficiency (Learning, Practicing, or Applying): Students’ skill proficiency, as determined by their voice recording, in each skill category. Teachers can select a student icon to see the students and their individual skill proficiency within that Skill Category and Phonics proficiency.
- # Correct: The number of skill attempts that a student performed correctly in Word Warm-Up and Read & Record.
- # Attempts: The number of overall attempts related to each skill made by a student in the Word Warm-Up and Read & Record activities.
- % Avg: The average in skill proficiency across all attempts.
Teachers Can Look For:
- Check in with students falling in the Learning range. They may be attempting a Short Reads Decodables card or Read to Know text at too high a level. Or the students may need additional support and practice with specific skills.
- Check in with students falling in the Applying ranges. They may need a more advanced text set or card to challenge them.
Oral Reading Accuracy & Fluency
This chart shows students’ performance on recent Word Warm-Up and Read & Record activities.
- Word Warm-Up Words Correct: The number of words a student read aloud correctly in the Word Warm-Up activity, out of the total number of words attempted.
- Read & Record Words Correct: The number of target words—exemplars of a phonics focus or other element—that a student read aloud correctly in the Read & Record activity, out of the total number attempted.
- Read & Record Fluency: The fluency proficiency range of words that a student read aloud correctly, up to the last word detected as correct in the Read & Record activity. This score incorporates word substitutions and deleted words, but does not incorporate word insertions.
- Reading Activity Completion: Whether or not a student was able to complete the entire Read & Record activity in the time available.
- Card/Text Sets: The selected digital Short Read Decodable Card(s) or Read to Know Text Set(s) that a student has attempted or completed.
Teachers Can Look For:
- Check in with students with a high completion rate and a low fluency score. This could mean that they need to take more time to sound out words correctly.
- Check in with students with a low recording activity completion rate. They may be having difficulty with the text, or they may need assistance at their computers as they are doing their recordings.
Progress Tab
Decodable Texts Completed
This chart shows students’ activity on Short Read Decodables and Read to Know Text Sets activities.
- Completions: The number of Text Sets & Cards which a student has completed all 3 activities for all texts in a text set. Click on a student’s number of Completions for any grade level to view the specific Texts Sets & Cards completed and the most recent date practiced.
- Attempts: The number of times that student has attempted a Text Set or Card. Attempts include completions as well as activities exited while in progress. Click on a student’s number of Attempts for any grade level to view the specific Texts Sets & Cards completed and the most recent date practiced.
Teachers Can Look For:
- Check in with students with high attempts and low completions. This could mean that they need to take more time to get through an entire Text Set or Card.
Growth Tab
Student Grade Equivalencies
The Letters2Meaning (L2M) assessment assesses a student’s letter identification, letter-sound identification, word reading, and spelling and comprehension skills. It also provides a grade equivalent for each student. This graph provides insights into each student’s placement and growth across all L2M assessment administrations during the date range selected.
- Grade Equivalents: The numbers at the top of the chart indicate the grade equivalents. For example, 1.5 is halfway through Grade 1.
- L2M Assessments: The numbers in the circles represent an L2M assessment administration. Administrations are numbered in the order in which they were taken.
- Expected Levels: The expected level for the selected grade and month is shown in pink.
- View Range: Use the Grade and Month drop-down menus to view the expected levels at various grades and time periods.
Teachers Can Look For:
- Check in with students who are falling outside of the expected levels for the current grade and month. Students whose assessment scores appear before the expected level may need more focused instruction, and students whose scores appear after the expected level may need more challenging materials.
